New small vertical windmill: Thesis and participation opportunity

New small vertical windmill start-up offers thesis study and participation: Fryslânwind is a start-up for the optimisation and up-scaling of a small vertical windmill (see www.fryslanwind.com). A proven concept of vertical windmill, rated 2,5 kW unit at 12m/sec, should be optimised in order to be the model for up-scaling. The system has been in operation for over a year to full satisfaction. It proved to be one of the few small windmills with a satisfactory efficiency.

The system is extraordinary silent and free of vibrations and could be placed on buildings, containers, off-grid etc. It has exciting opportunities! We want to optimize the control functions in relation to the special features of the vertical windmill (such as no self starting) and after successful testing up-scaling from 2,5 kW to 15 kW. That is expected to be attractive both technical as well as economical.

This start-up has been established to effectuate this and to market the product. We have an opening for a MSc student/specialist who wants to do his/her thesis study or internship for our company (Fryslânwind, based in Friesland, but most of the work could be done remotely). He/she should be capable to optimize/simplify the control functions in combination with optimizing the performance of the system. Knowledge of electronic control is important as well as a willingness to learn the specifics of a vertical windmill. The original inventor (retired) is as well participating in the company and could transfer his knowledge. We offer to the student after a successful study a participation in the company as well as employment, if the cooperation from both sides is to mutual satisfaction.
