Brains4buildings project - Student Assistant

Vacancy student assistant unlocking building data (8-16 hours per week for at least 3 months)

The Brains4buildings project has a vacancy for a student assistant to support the project activities in collecting and unlocking various user data from buildings at the TU Delft campus. These buildings are used as living labs within the project to develop and test algorithms to reduce energy consumption, increase comfort, respond flexibly to user behaviour and local energy supply and demand, and save on installation maintenance costs.

Tasks for the student assistant include:

  • Connect various data streams generated within the buildings at the TU Delft campus to the Data Sharing Platform. Data streams include, among others: energy consumption data, login data, data from building management systems (BMS), data from local climate systems, etc. More info on The Green Village Gitlab page.

  • Attend regular meetings with a small project team that will be established for these activities.

  • Work remotely as well as at The Green Village office.

Profile and required skills:

  • A master's student with a background in energy and ICT.

  • Experience with Linux OS, bash scripting, and APIs.

  • Practical knowledge of Python programming language.

  • Practical knowledge of SQL and databases.

  • Basic knowledge of IoT device communication protocols such as MQTT, HTTP, or Modbus.

  • It would furthermore be nice if you have:

    • Experience with/willingness to learn about data streaming.

    • Knowledge of building installations (HVAC).
