MSc-project: Geochemical monitoring
Geochemical monitoring for geothermal heat production
Introduction
Geothermal heat use is a relative new technology in the Netherlands. So far, wells were drilled in Bleijswijk, The Hague and in Pijnacker. The TU Delft has its own ‘vrijenban area’ concession for geothermal energy. On this concession, three geothermal doublets will be realized from which two are being realized by greenhouse companies in Pijnacker (Ammerlaan and Duijvenstijn) and one will be realized to supply heat to the campus of the university.
A geochemical monitoring program will concentrate on regularly controlling the chemistry of the fluid, focusing on clogging and corrosion issues. It will also provide data to understand the geochemistry of the geothermal systems and its evolution. The main objectives are 1) To control directly if clogging or corrosion is impairing the system; 2) To acquire data in order to assess if clogging or corrosion is likely to create problems in the future. This will permit to plan prevention and maintenance strategies if needed; and 3) To control the evolution of the fluid chemistry. In particular, to monitor the changes due to the chemical breakthrough, which gives important information regarding the cooling of the geothermal system.
The monitoring data will be analyzed at the TU Delft which may lead to an optimization of the production techniques and a better risk mitigation of geothermal exploitations in the Netherlands. It may also participate the improvement of the life-time estimation of the systems, assessing the interferences between the different doublets; and the possibilities for multi-use of the reservoirs (i.e. CCS).

MicroDOT
Project announcement:
Transport and installation planning of fluid-power
transmission for MicroDOT
What is MicroDOT?
The MicroDOT is part of the DOT (Delft Offshore Turbine) research project at TU
Delft. A defining characteristic of the DOT is the fluid power transmission from the
individual turbines to one generator station. The goal of the MicroDOT project is
to demonstrate the functionality of this fluid power drive train concept by
developing a 10 kW prototype. The MicroDOT is a fully functioning lab system and
waiting for the next stage of testing in the field.

Sharetech Renewable Energy Platform
One of the main motors of economic development today is information technology and interconnectivity. While the ability to search information and interact locally and globally is available and taken for granted in the developed world, the absence of these resources is a serious handicap in large parts of the underdeveloped world. Access to information technology and interconnectivity could provide the means for rural communities in Asia, Africa, South America and Eastern Europe to improve their quality of life and enhance economic development.
