OTEC foundation
Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is a method for generating electricity using the temperature difference between the hot surface water and the cold deep water in the ocean. OTEC has the potential to become one of the leading renewable energy technologies in the near future and is in the position to completely phase out the use of fossil fuels. However, up to now the technology is a relatively un-exploited field of energy research. As a result, not a lot of people are aware of the vast potential of this renewable energy source. Do you also think this is a missed opportunity?! This is your chance to give a new and vibrant impulse to OTEC by creating and launching a new global initiative, the ‘OTEC foundation’.
The project: the OTEC foundation
You as a team will co-develop the OTEC foundation, which will be an international, non-profit organization with the aim to raise global awareness for OTEC among governments, industry and knowledge institutes. The foundation will achieve this by building an online portal, active OTEC network, organizing and attending (inter)national conferences / seminars, creating a knowledge base and more. Your work will contribute to establishing a new information source for OTEC!

The project involves converting a small (ICE) fuel car into a full electric one. In fact, a Mercedes SMART is going to be the prototype. The internal combustion engine has already been taken out and a new electric motor has been ordered. The goal of the team is to have built a working prototype by January 2012, in collaboration with the Energy Club, the Industrial Design faculty, the Haagse Hogeschool and a Dutch high-school.
