OTEC foundation

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is a method for generating electricity using the tem­perature difference between the hot surface water and the cold deep water in the ocean. OTEC has the potential to become one of the leading renewable energy technologies in the near future and is in the position to completely phase out the use of fossil fuels. However, up to now the technology is a relatively un-exploited field of energy research. As a result, not a lot of people are aware of the vast potential of this renewable energy source. Do you also think this is a missed opportunity?! This is your chance to give a new and vibrant impulse to OTEC by creating and launching a new global initiative, the ‘OTEC foundation’.

The project: the OTEC foundation

You as a team will co-develop the OTEC foundation, which will be an international, non-profit organization with the aim to raise global awareness for OTEC among governments, industry and knowledge institutes. The foundation will achieve this by building an online portal, active OTEC network, organizing and attending (inter)national conferences / seminars, creating a knowledge base and more. Your work will contribute to establishing a new information source for OTEC!

What are we looking for?

This project requires a multi-disciplinary and entrepreneurial team. Motivation and commitment is most important, meaning that students from all faculties and study programs are welcome to apply, also students from other university cities. Especially students from the following fields are encouraged to apply:

  • Industrial Design
  • Architecture
  • Graphical design (cross-media)
  • Computer Science
  • Communication Sciences
  • Energy

We require applicants to be willing to commit for a longer period of time, willing to invest at least five hours a week and to be flexible. This will enable us to establish a strong team that will lay the foundations and ensure continuity of the OTEC foundation.

The project will start late November 2011, and we intend to officially launch the OTEC foundation early 2012.

Future prospects: what does the OTEC foundation has to offer?

Due to the innovative character of the project it has great potential to be exposed and published internationally in the press and at conferences. Your work will inspire and connect people all over the World. The OTEC foundation will give you access to a rich network of energy experts, international conferences and much more!
