Road to Sustainable Aviation Fuels at KLM

On the 29th of November, the Energy Club featured a lecture by Thijs Komen, Director of Business Innovations at KLM. He presented the pathway and strategy followed at KLM to reach the target of switching to sustainable biofuels powering their fleet of aircrafts in the near future.
In 2009, KLM claimed to be the first aircraft to have a successful demonstration flight by powering one of its passenger airplanes, Boeing 747 with 40 passengers, with 50% bio-kerosene mix in one of the airplane engines. Durin the lecture Thijs Komen elaborated about these advancements at KLM and their race to develop a source of aviation biofuel under strict technological, economic and ecological criterion.
